Women’s Premier League: Harmanpreet led Mumbai Indians to victory against Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League on Saturday by playing an unbeaten innings of 95 runs. Playing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Gujarat Giants posed a challenging target of 190 runs by scoring 190 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. However, Mumbai Indians chased down the target with three wickets in hand in 19.5 overs, scoring 191 runs. This victory marks Mumbai Indians’ fifth win out of seven matches, securing the top spot with 10 points. On the other hand, Gujarat Giants suffered their fifth defeat in six matches, remaining at the bottom of the table with just two points.
Harmanpreet Kaur played a magnificent innings, scoring 95 runs off 48 balls with the help of 10 fours and five sixes. Additionally, opener Yastika Bhatia contributed with 49 runs off 36 balls. Helly Mathews scored 18 runs, Nethra L. S. Pratap scored 2 runs, and Amelia Kerr remained unbeaten with 12 runs. Earlier, captain Beth Mooney and Deepti Sharma scored half-centuries for Gujarat. Mooney scored 66 runs off 35 balls, including eight fours and three sixes, while Sharma scored 74 runs off 40 balls, comprising nine fours and two sixes. They shared a partnership of 121 runs for the second wicket in 11 overs. Gujarat won the toss and opted to bat first. Mumbai’s bowlers quickly dismissed opener Laura Wolvaardt (13), with Helly Mathews taking the wicket, while Beth Mooney continued her consistent performance with her second consecutive half-century.
