Gorakhpur: An ombudsman has been appointed to address the grievances of students at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University and MMMUT. Professor BK Singh of Malviya University and Professor Nirupama Aggarwal have been appointed as the Lokpal for Gorakhpur University.
Lokpal for a period of three years
The Madan Mohan Malviya Technological University has appointed an Ombudsman to properly address student complaints. The Ombudsman, Prof. VK Singh, is the first person to hold this position at the university. Prof. Vinod Kumar Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University in Bikaner and IIMT University in Meerut, has been appointed as the Lokpal for a period of three years or until he reaches the age of 70.
UGC mandates the formation
The UGC mandates the formation of a Student Grievance Redressal Committee and the appointment of an Lokpal to address the grievances of students studying in various universities. A Student Grievance Redressal Committee had already been formed in MMMUT. The detailed proposal for the appointment of the Lokpal was placed for the approval of the Board of Management. After receiving approval from the Management Board, he was appointed as the first Lokpal.
Student’s issues will be solved
The Lokpal will handle student issues relating to admissions, fees, and examinations. Students enrolled in the university or seeking admission to the institute who are experiencing irregularities in the admissions process, violations of the institute’s stated admissions policy, irregularities in determining seats, reservation provisions, violations of the institute’s FIR, including false and misleading claims, fee irregularities, delays in conducting examinations and announcing results, and any form of discrimination or harassment can file appeals regarding complaints of violations of laws, regulations, ordinances, etc. by the institute.
Lokpal must attempt to resolve the complaint within 30 days
According to UGC rules, the university’s Lokpal must attempt to resolve the complaint within 30 days of receiving the appeal. Before appealing to the ombudsman, students must submit their issues to the Student Grievance Redressal Committee, and only if they do not receive a solution from there or are not satisfied with the solution can they appeal to the Lokpal.
Grievances of the students will be resolved quickly
Professor Nirupama Agarwal has been appointed as the Lokpal of the Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. Professor Nirupama Agarwal, the former Dean of the Faculty of Science at Lucknow University, has been appointed as the first Lokpal of the Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. The Vice Chancellor of the Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Professor Poonam Tandon, has appointed Professor Nirupama Agarwal as the Lokpal to address the grievances of the students. In April, the University Grants Commission directed her appointment as the Lokpal in the University/Institute on August 25, 2023, to address the grievances of the students.
