GO GORAKHPUR: Lawyers in Gorakhpur boycotted work on Tuesday in protest of the Hapur incident. Led by Bar Association President Manoj Kumar Pandey and Minister Dharendra Kumar Dwivedi, the lawyers started the strike from the Bar Hall. Hundreds of lawyers reached the Ambedkar intersection outside the court and blocked the road. This led to a long queue of vehicles. People were stuck in traffic for hours.
During this time, lawyers took out a procession on the road from the court to Firaq Chowk and raised slogans against the government. They said that the police are constantly behaving brutally with lawyers across the state. The government is standing with them and practicing dictatorship, but the lawyer community will not tolerate this injustice. Lawyers warned that if the accused are not dismissed, there will be a bigger movement. A delegation of lawyers submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to the ADM City.
Shouting slogans, the lawyers said that this government has created an atmosphere of chaos and fear in the state in the last 6 years. Today, every citizen of the state is living in an atmosphere of fear. The government is protecting criminals. It is taking action against the innocent for show. Police forces were present near the court during the protest.
